Fashion is an industry ripe with litigation, with every segment of the market — from luxury to fast fashion and from resale to supply chain — impacted.
So far this year, a slew of lawsuits have been filed, while other, yearslong lawsuits have seen significant changes.
The legal issues have included the alleged fraudulent use of trademarks, disputes over design elements and consumer class action lawsuits against fast fashion giants and their marketing tactics.
Some cases have been settled since they were filed earlier this year, including a shareholder lawsuit to block the proposed deal to take Skechers private and a complaint filed by Steve Madden asking the court to affirm that Adidas “does not own all stripes.”
