Dive Brief:
- Mango has added Helena Helmersson as an independent member of its board of directors, according to a press release earlier this week.
- Helmersson, formerly CEO of the H&M Group, is chairman of Circulose, the textile-to-textile fiber company previously known as Renewcell.
- The announcement follows the Spain-based fashion group’s announcement that it had entered a partnership with Circulose to integrate recycled textiles into its supply chain.
Dive Insight:
Adding Helmersson to Mango’s board represents what the company calls an alignment with “international best practices” and further added that the appointment reinforces its professionalized management model.
“We are welcoming an exceptional professional whose vast international perspective and extensive experience in the fashion industry will undoubtedly propel us to new heights,” Toni Ruiz, CEO and chairman of Mango, said in the release. “[Helmersson’s] expertise and visionary approach are invaluable assets that will enrich our leadership team and drive our global ambitions forward.”
Mango’s board is now composed of six independent directors and four executive directors. Other independent members include Puig Chairman and CEO Marc Puig and Jorge Lucaya, founding partner of AZ Capital.
Boosting the board of directors was a commitment Mango defined in its 2024 to 2026 Strategic Plan, which focuses on differentiating its value proposition, committing to sustainability and innovation and expanding to drive sales, per the release.
The partnership with Circulose also was positioned as a way Mango could meet its sustainability goals, including its objective of using only lower impact fibers by 2030.
While H&M CEO, Helmersson led sustainability, production and global operations, per the release. She stepped down from the executive role in 2024. She previously served as co-chair of the Fashion Pact, a CEO-led initiative calling for a vast cut to emissions.
In addition to Circulose, Helmersson sits on the board of On Holding AG and Quizzr.
